ISLAMABAD: The first international day of democracy is being observed today throughout world including Pakistan.Acting president Dr Fehmida Mirza has said in her message on the occasion that the political leadership should be united avoiding differences for stability of democratic process.The United Nations had approved a resolution on November 8 last year to observe every year the international day of democracy to promote a sense of democracy all over the world.On the world day of democracy, a democracy quiz show will be held among the university students under the UN Information Centre and the Centre for Civic Education Pakistan.Besides this, various programmes have been scheduled regarding promotion and education of democracy and they include the prize distribution ceremony of national essay writing competition, screening of a documentary film on democracy and a seminar on democratic civic education.Acting president Dr Fehmida Mirza said in the message on the world democracy day that the democracy is inevitable for peace, stability and development.She said that the people’s participation in the affairs of the country would ensure fundamental independence, equality, achievements of the needs of the people and restoration of law and order.
